New Album Review: Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Getaway – Warner Bros.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, are known for too many hits to mention here (Under the Bridge, Breaking the Girl, Scar Tissue, The Zephyr Song, Can’t Stop, Aeroplane just to name my favs). While this latest album is their eleventh studio album, it does not have the angst and punch that some previous albums have given us, but I think it will still please.

Tracks such as Dark Necessities offer a funky, fast, sound like something from a 70s movie. Heavy lyrics offer depth and genius that is Chili Peppers, “you don’t know my mind, you don’t know my kind, Dark Necessities are part of my design”. I love that. The track We Turn Red reminds me of long road trips for some reason, and is old school RHCP. The Longest Wave is thoughtful and Beatle-esq (with an Anthony Kiedis rap). The song Encore is a thoughtful ballad. The track The Hunter is like a hazy dream you just kind of remember (it’s haunting). Dreams of a Saurai is another Beatle-esq number. Slow, cool and psychedelic. These are only six of thirteen tracks available.

This album, The Getaway, brings all of the very best of RHCP talents, without the edge of many former hits. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are; Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer. RHCPs are from Los Angeles, California.
