Andrea Jones is no stranger to leaving her mark at Triton College. As former participant in the gospel choir, Vice President of the Triton College Student Association (TCSA), and Mrs Triton Winner in 2011, she now sets her sites to winning The Miss Black and Gold Pageant.
The pageant, which became nation in 1982, is an annual competition through the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at various schools including Kansas State and Fisk University just to name a few. Jones, 23, expressed her excitement upon entering the competition and hopes to adding another crown next to her Mrs. Triton crown and sage.
“I decided to run because I love the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and I love what they stand for. I feel that I uphold those standards in everything that I do; since I cannot be a member of the organization I can be a representation by being a queen.” Jones said.
If She wins the pageant, not only will she be crowned the 2014 Miss Black and Gold title along with past winners including 2012’s winner Ke’Niece Musgrove and the first ever winner Deniese Smith , but she will be in charge of programs within the fraternity as well as a scholarship. And upon her win will be entered in the national competition where the winners from each school will compete for the national title.
The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is set to take place on February 26th at Fisk University in Nashville, TN.
“If my fellow Triton people want to support me, they can email me at email@example.com and I would truly appreciate the support.” Jones said.
Below is Jones’ sponsor letter for those who want to support her in her journey towards the crown:
Dear Potential Sponsor:
Hello, my name is Andre`a Jones. I am thrilled to be currently running for the position of Miss Black and Gold; for the prestigious Fisk University 2012-2013. I will be contending against various contestants in a royal pageant. I will have to display excellent speaking skills, talent and good presentation.
The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is put together by the men of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Alpha Phi Alpha was the first Inter-Collegiate Black Greek Letter fraternity established for African-Americans. The fraternity was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The organizations foundation is to supply the need for a strong bond and relation of Brotherhood among African descendants in The United States. Alpha Phi Alpha displays servant-leadership by volunteering, promoting academics and leading others.
I am asking for your support as I compete at the Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated level. Miss Black and Gold is a prestigious title and one that I know I can fulfill. I am a supporter of education and community service and display leadership in every task or situation presented before me. I take charge for servant leadership in my community, by giving services to others while encouraging others to be the best “you” you can be.
The Miss Black and Gold Pageant will take place on February 26, 2014 in the Appleton Room in Jubilee Hall located on Fisk University’s Campus, 1000 17th Ave N. Nashville, TN 37208. The goal for each contestant is to raise a minimum of 150 dollars that will go toward the scholarship for the winner and offset the cost of the pageant; however, my goal is to raise more than 150 dollars. I have been asked to sell advertisements for the Pageant Souvenir Booklet. There are 4 different types of advertisements that can be purchased:
Business Cards $10 Half Page $30
Quarter Page $15 Full Page $50
The deadline for all ads is February 4 , 2011 and money can be turned in up until the end of February. If you would like to write out a check, you can make it payable to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and in the memo section write Alpha Chi.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your time and support
