Wrestling fans rejoice over the exciting news that the World Wresting Entertainment will launch their new network simply called the WWE Network on February 24th following an episode of Monday Night Raw.

The network will be offering an array of content from all wrestling leagues including the WWE, ECW, and WCW which will include all the most talked about battles between all three companies including the first ever Wrestle Mania. Other content will include programs that can’t be seen anywhere else including NXT, a show dedicated to up and coming wrestlers and documentaries of past and present personalities that still grace the ring.

What made the announcement more surprising is that every Pay-Per-View event will be included starting with Wrestle Mania 30 upon the launch. The cost for the network is $9.99 monthly, (only a dollar more than Netflix) and adds up to over $400 in savings for fans who order every event yearly.

Upon the launch, it will be available on devices including PS3&4, Xbox One, Ruku and on any phone, computer or tablet. So mark your calenders for February 24th at 10pm to witness history in the making for the world of wrestling. To sign up visit wwe.com

Andrea Jones is no stranger to leaving her mark at Triton College. As former participant in the gospel choir, Vice President of the Triton College Student Association (TCSA), and Mrs Triton Winner in 2011, she now sets her sites to winning The Miss Black and Gold Pageant.

The pageant, which became nation in 1982, is an annual competition through the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at various schools including Kansas State and Fisk University just to name a few. Jones, 23, expressed her excitement upon entering the competition and hopes to adding another crown next to her Mrs. Triton crown and sage.

I decided to run because I love the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and I love what they stand for. I feel that I uphold those standards in everything that I do; since I cannot be a member of the organization I can be a representation by being a queen.” Jones said.

If She wins the pageant, not only will she be crowned the 2014 Miss Black and Gold title along with past winners including 2012’s winner Ke’Niece Musgrove and the first ever winner Deniese Smith , but she will be in charge of programs within the fraternity as well as a scholarship. And upon her win will be entered in the national competition where the winners from each school will compete for the national title.

The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is set to take place on February 26th at Fisk University in Nashville, TN.

“If my fellow Triton people want to support me, they can email me at andrea.jones@myfisk.edu and I would truly appreciate the support.” Jones said.

Below is Jones’ sponsor letter for those who want to support her in her journey towards the crown:

Dear Potential Sponsor:

Hello, my name is Andre`a Jones. I am thrilled to be currently running for the position of Miss Black and Gold; for the prestigious Fisk University 2012-2013. I will be contending against various contestants in a royal pageant. I will have to display excellent speaking skills, talent and good presentation.

The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is put together by the men of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Alpha Phi Alpha was the first Inter-Collegiate Black Greek Letter fraternity established for African-Americans. The fraternity was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The organizations foundation is to supply the need for a strong bond and relation of Brotherhood among African descendants in The United States. Alpha Phi Alpha displays servant-leadership by volunteering, promoting academics and leading others.

I am asking for your support as I compete at the Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated level. Miss Black and Gold is a prestigious title and one that I know I can fulfill. I am a supporter of education and community service and display leadership in every task or situation presented before me. I take charge for servant leadership in my community, by giving services to others while encouraging others to be the best “you” you can be.

The Miss Black and Gold Pageant will take place on February 26, 2014 in the Appleton Room in Jubilee Hall located on Fisk University’s Campus, 1000 17th Ave N. Nashville, TN 37208. The goal for each contestant is to raise a minimum of 150 dollars that will go toward the scholarship for the winner and offset the cost of the pageant; however, my goal is to raise more than 150 dollars. I have been asked to sell advertisements for the Pageant Souvenir Booklet. There are 4 different types of advertisements that can be purchased:

Business Cards $10 Half Page $30

Quarter Page $15 Full Page $50

The deadline for all ads is February 4 , 2011 and money can be turned in up until the end of February. If you would like to write out a check, you can make it payable to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and in the memo section write Alpha Chi.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at andrea.jones@myfisk.edu.

Thank you for your time and support

Sincerely,

Andre`a Jones

Over an estimated 10,000 attendees filled the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center for the 2014 Chicago Travel and Adventure Show on Jan. 11th and 12th.

Exhibitors including Disney Destinations, Maui, Costa Rica and Mexico were some of the eye catching exhibits that many found intriguing. Visitor Andrew Fackler, 18, has attended the show for four years and said that there were some things missing from what he has seen in previous years.

“It’s bigger, but in the past they had more animals, but I’ve been here long enough to have seen everything anyways.” Fackler said.

Besides the exhibits themselves, what drew the largest crowd were the special guest speakers including Travel Channels Samantha Brown and WTTW’s Rick Steves just to name a few. Brown entertained the attendees with tales from her travel of finding peanut butter and helpful advice for how to get started with traveling.

“To have meaningful travel, I want to know where the up and coming area is. When we travel, we scroll down strip malls for real ethnic crusine.” Brown said.

“I love discovering these hidden pockets of culture. Get out the packs, put yourself in the middle of it and talk to people. Nothing gives

opportunity like traveling the next undiscovered area, for me it’s Southeast Asia.”

Though the show featured over 60 exhibits, the people want more. Visitor Ervine fox, 40, who is a first timer to the convention, enjoyed the show although the Bora Bora exhibit wasn’t there this year.

“I like to travel and this gives me an idea and to ask different questions and picking up different things. I recommend this to anyone and I look forward to returning next year.” Fox said.

The Chicago Travel and Adventure show will return to Rosemont in January 2015.

Oh Snap Silva!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The world watched as one of the greatest fighters of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Anderson Silva broke his leg against Chris Weidman Dec. 28.

Silva, 38, went into round two with the look of determination to regain his championship title, but less than two minutes into the bout, he kicked Weidman in the shin, but was Weidman blocked the attack, Silva’s leg instantly broke his tibia in two before he realized what happened as he landed the leg back unto the mat leading to the collapse of the superstar.

Weidman, 27, following the fight said that this doesn’t take away from the fact that he is the greatest fighter of all time and he wishes him well.

This is the second time a fighter inside the octagon, another Brazilian MMA fighter broke his leg the same way as Silva’s back in 2009, but this is the first time in a main event fight a fighter broke their leg during a live telecast.

The jokes hit social media less than ten minutes with people posting jokes about the injury including a pics of bottles of milk and an action figure of Silva with the leg twisted.

Although Silva had a successful surgery following the fight, the question of whether his career in the UFC is over or if he does comeback after healing will he be the same Silva that other fighters fear to challenge? For fans, they may have to wait a year to find out.
